8 January 2012 – Congregational Meeting
Jared’s Blog – 8 January 2012
Good morning everyone, and a warm welcome to Priestfield Church.
Congregational Meeting – 22 January, after the Service.
Today Barry Cross, our Session Clerk, will be making intimation of a special Congregational Meeting to update us with progress on the dry rot. It will take place on 22 January immediately after the service. There will be information on several issues: the extent of the dry rot, the estimated cost of dealing with it, how much money we have towards that cost and approval for an application to Historic Scotland for a grant towards the cost.
This last element will be in two parts, because there are two funding bodies that give money, both of which are channelled through Historic Scotland: HS’s own funds and the Heritage Lottery Fund. Approving an application to Historic Scotland should be uncontroversial but there is division of opinion about an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Kirk Session decided that this matter should be referred to the Congregational Meeting to give the Session guidance.
Please think about the issues surrounding such an application and you will have the opportunity to make your opinion known. All that is asked is that we relate in a way that respects the faith and views of others and that recognises we all, in the end, want the same outcome – a building fit for worship and mission.
At the meeting Barry will also share with us more about how the Session would like us to fulfil the instruction of the General Assembly to take action on our stewardship of money, time and talents so that our mission will not be hindered by lack of resources. Across the land, congregations are facing difficult times and we are no different. This won’t just be about money, but we can’t hide from the fact that money will be a prominent area for discussion and action.
Jared’s other blog
As the embers of 2011 were dying, I made a resolution and decided to bring it to pass right away before the toll of the bells. And what was this exciting (!) decision? To create an internet blog on which I will write whatever is on my mind, hopefully several times a week.
This has a number of purposes, including the improvement of my capacity to write (greatly needed), to reflect on particular issues of the moment and as a means of mission.
You’ll find it using the link below. I’d be glad if some of you would ‘follow,’ read and comment.

Have a good week!
Jared.
Questions for thinking about last week’s message:
Jesus invites us to dine; Jesus invites us to change.
Am I going to take my place at God’s Table through Jesus’ invitation?
How can we at Priestfield use this hospitality method of mission?
