Minister – Jared Hay

Rev Dr Jared W Hay

Jared was born and brought up in Prestwick. His first job was with the Royal Bank (in the good old days!) and then he went to study theology at the London School of Theology (then called London Bible College). After graduating he spent four years among students with UCCF, during which time he moved to Edinburgh, did an MTh through Aberdeen University and became a member of the Church of Scotland.

In 1984 he became a candidate for full-time ministry and spent two years at New College before becoming the Assistant at what was then Cluny Church in Morningside. It was there he met his wife Jane, stealing the best Alto from the choir.

His first charge was Newbattle, in Dalkeith, Midlothian and then in 2001 he was called to Balerno, in Edinburgh Presbytery. While there he received a scholarship to undertake a DMin course at Princeton Theological Seminary, and this proved to be a life-changing experience.

Having worked with ‘Emerging Ministries’ for the Ministries Council for some years, he sensed a call to be more involved in that work congregationally and Priestfield called him to develop it in this Parish. He was inducted in June 2009.

His interests include reading crime thrillers, playing golf and holidays in Europe, especially France. His hope is, eventually, to live more fully in the way of Jesus.

Jared and Jane have two adult children, Catriona and Ian.
