Messy Church

messy-churchMessy Church 2016

There have been a lot of Messy Church events in 2016.

In January we had a Film Night for families, and young and old alike enjoyed the Disney Film “Inside Out”, munching popcorn and ice cream during the interval.

February saw the first actual Messy Church of the year as we looked at the Parable of the Sower, bulbs and seeds, printing and icing biscuits.

In March we went from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday – with a large cardboard cross and walking in paint and washing each others’ feet as some of the activities.

messy-church-talkApril saw us looking at Moses. God had a plan for the Moses and the Israelites, as he does for us, and to help us we made baskets, burning bushes and locusts and smelled smelly smells.

End of May was another family event with juggling and aerial workshops. This was followed by a time to hear about an amazing event with Jesus and the crippled man who was healed and then able to “walk and leap and praise God”.

messy-church-foodIn September we did lots of things about the man who built Bigger Barns in which to store all his crops. Our worship made us think about how we can share what we have.

In November we looked at Salt and Light; salt dough and salt painting, lighthouses big and small, a candle cake, scratch pictures and more. We are salt and light for people as Jesus is our light in the world.

When you read this we will have had the Messy Church at the end of November following Mary as she travels to many places. God is with her on this amazing journey as he can be with us. We will have put up the Christmas tree, made the Advent Wreath as well as tried cracker making, donkey projecting, making a stable, painted footsteps round the building thinking about Mary’s travels, bubble painting for dreams and decorating feet and angel biscuits. We will have had food on the move round the hall with rolls, sausages and toppings.

In the Messy Church times we have lots of activities, we worship together, then enjoy a meal – all based round a bible story or theme.

The final activity of the year is on Saturday 17th December; a Family Film Night. Come along. Ice cream and popcorn for all!! Look out for details nearer the time.
