Welcome to Edinburgh! It’s a great place to be and to study and we hope you will enjoy your time here. Generations of students have found Priestfield Church a welcoming, homely place to worship and serve. We are not one of the ‘big’ student churches, so it’s easy to get to know other students, members of the congregation and make your own contribution to our life and mission. For those living in Pollock Halls, we are right next door, and very close to the many student flats on Dalkeith Road.

Some things we do

At the beginning of the first semester, we provide a few ‘welcome’ lunches after our Sunday morning Service (10.30am until around 11.45am), giving folks a chance to eat and chat. These usually evolve into occasional ‘bring and share’ lunches. Students at all points in their courses are invited.

There’s a lot of fun at our monthly Sunday ‘cooking nights’ in a family home, making seasonal or international foods together, then sharing what has been made. Our sanctuary now has comfortable seating and a big screen (used for services), so we hope there will be occasional film nights, watching a movie and then reflecting on it – over popcorn and drinks.

Worship and service at Priestfield – Sundays 10.30am

Priestfield is a Presbyterian Church belonging to the Church of Scotland, and our worship reflects that tradition. We believe in the transforming power of the Gospel, and that Jesus welcomes all who come to him, whatever their situation. We like to be informal, and to include willing students in our Scripture reading and audio-visual rotas. And we like to make use of those with musical skills, either playing instruments or singing with our small choir.

At the heart of our mission is service to the community in the name of Jesus, and our building is frequently used by groups we believe make a positive contribution to the area. Each Thursday, we have a soup and bread lunch, which is free to all who come (although donations are welcome!). Presently, we are developing our back garden as a place where our community can meet, or individuals can come to reflect. This project offers therapeutic activity, away from the stresses of study. And at exam time, we offer quiet space for revision.

Come and be part of our life

Whoever you are, you are sure of a warm welcome at Priestfield and we’d be delighted if you choose to come and share in our common life. You will make a real difference.

“Priestfield Church is the most welcoming church I have ever been to. Right from walking through the door there are friendly smiles and people of all ages genuinely interested in who you are, what your story is, and how they can help you get the most from this Christian community”. Ed
